How do I donate?

You may choose to make a gift in any amount to an existing fund within the ACCF. Or you may create your own fund (with a minimum gift of $5,000).

Here's how to donate:

1) Choose when to give. You can create a fund by making a gift now, establishing it in your will, or creating it through a trust arrangement. Ask the ACCF or your financial advisor about specific tax benefits.

2) Decide what to give. Almost any asset can be accepted, such as cash, securities, closely-held stock, interests in limited partnerships, real estate (including a residence), life insurance, tangible personal property, and private foundation assets. Other options include gift annuities, life estate gifts, and charitable trusts; ask the ACCF or your financial advisor for details.

3) Choose an existing fund: here.

Or Choose a name and type for your new fund (minimum $5,000 gift):

Many funds are named for the donor or the donor's family, or as a memorial to someone special. Or, you could choose a name that reflects the fund's charitable purposes. Every grant from your fund will carry this name.

We know the community. Our work is guided by a cross-section of leaders who lend valuable insight, ensuring that your charitable giving achieve maximum results in your community.

Tax benefits. Contributions are eligible for the highest available tax deductions, including the Michigan Tax Credit.

Time and cost savings. In most cases, the tax benefits of contributing to a community foundation outweigh using your assets to establish your own private foundation. We take care of all the administrative and grantmaking activities for you, saving you time and money.

Create a legacy. By setting up a fund with the ACCF, you're creating a legacy for yourself and for our area. Most gifts to the ACCF are endowed, meaning the principal is never spent. Your gift is invested with the gifts of others; each year, the interest and earnings from those investments are used to fund a variety of worthwhile projects and programs in Allegan County.

By retaining the principal, the Foundation assures that your gifts will continue to create more money. This guarantees that the ACCF and its donors will be able to make an impact on the health and welfare of county residents long after each of us is gone.
