Jack and Phyllis Streidl lived in Plainwell, Michigan for over 55 years – but their story spans the state and country. Recognized for lifetime achievements, Jack was inducted into the National High School Athletic Coaches Association, the Michigan High School Coaches Hall of Fame, Western Michigan University Hall of Fame, Upper Peninsula Hall of Fame, Plainwell High School Hall of Fame and numerous others. While Jack’s coaching abilities carried his team to conference titles (9 Wolverine Conference titles for football, 10 for track), state championships and many winning seasons – it was his leadership ability that is remembered and admired by those who were fortunate to be coached by him. While Jack dedicated himself to teaching and coaching, Phyllis stayed home to raise their eight children – and become a published author. Her chronicles of love and family are a sweet scrapbook of the joy and pain of motherhood and life.

Jack and Phyllis opened their home to many a young teacher and coach while they raised their own family – a family they raised while Jack served in WWII and the Korean War. While they were blessed with a life of deep love and compassion for those around them, their family is their greatest source of pride. “Our greatest accomplishment was putting 11 children through college”, said Jack.
