Fire Captain Steve Stevenson was a student of Otsego High School, graduating in 1978. As a beloved member of the Otsego and Plainwell areas, Steve served as a firefighter with the Otsego Fire Department and Paramedic/Operations Supervisor with American Medical Response. His accomplishments include serving as an instructor for the Allegan County Fire Academy and aiding in the design of the current Ladder Truck and Fire Engine. He served for 25 years as a firefighter and paramedic and is credited with starting Otsego’s medical first responder program. Steve’s passion for his work took him to Nassau County, NY to assist in
the recovery efforts following Hurricane Sandy. It was during the recovery efforts that Steve died from an aortic aneurysm.
The first scholarship will be awarded in 2015 and will recognize an Otsego High School graduate who is pursuing an education in fire science, vocal arts or seeking EMT certification. Donations to the memorial scholarship fund are welcome.
